Singularity == rapture for geeks

According to this Newsweek profile of Ray Kurzweil.

  1. Neat, I was just reading about this in a different context. P.W. Singer has a book out called "Wired for War" about the drone war in iraq and afghanistan. He talks about the progression of technology in general and robots in particular. In that he metions this "Singularity," and Ray Kurzweil as well.

  2. I just wrote an honors thesis that included a large section on the drone war. We made it from the singularity to me in three steps! Oh wait, this isn't six degrees of separation...

    Erm.

  3. Also this sentence:

    "I find death unacceptable," Kurzweil says.

    Is really really creepy. Seriously.

    Actually, beyond that--it's terrifying and stupid, if kind of tragically heroic in a Sisyphean sort of way. The guy needs to back away from the doomsday cyborgs slowly and carefully. Did we learn nothing from Frankenstein and Faust and The Iliad and Terminator and the Matrix?

    Speaking about technodystopias, there's a P.W. Singer article on Slate currently about killer technology and it's feasibility, here: http://www.slate.com/id/2218834
